Contour Polishing

Application area:

A finishing operation that polishes part walls and edges with the side of a disc tool along user-defined contours. At every toolpath point the disc rim is pressed against the surface — including undercuts a regular mill cannot reach.

The disc stands across the edge: its arbor runs along the contour, the rim touches the edge at a point, and the rotation “scrubs” across it — polishing marks lie across the edge, like polishing a blade on a wheel. The feed is a draw along the contour.

At every pass point the operation presses the disc to the part until the rim touches. Segments with no contact — or where the part obstructs the disc — are automatically trimmed out of the pass. Finished passes are joined with transitions over the safe surface.
